On a sunny Winter's day I came across a herd of Hereford cattle. As I approached the side of the fence they galloped towards me gleefully. The herd then bundled together, attempting to find respite from the harsh Australian sun in the shade of a deciduous tree. From the shade, one cow stepped forward, as if it intended to inspect me. At that moment, the cow's coat lit up a brilliant golden orange ochre amongst the field of green.
What a stark contrast!
Committing the moment to memory and using multiple references, I recreated the scene in oils as displayed here, entitled "The Herd" (2020).
